Procedure: How to File Income Tax Returns
February 06 , 2013
  1. If you have only salary and interest income (say from bank accounts), you only have the simple ITR I to fill
  2. If you are salaried, and also have capital gains or rent income on your own house, you need to fill ITR II
  3. These forms are available at https://incometaxindiaefiling.gov.in
  4. The last date for submission of ITR I or ITR II for the Financial Year 2009-10 is 31 July 2010
  1. ITR I is extremely simple, anyone with comfort in Excel should be able to fill this easily. You may not need a CA or 'expert' to help you fill this.
  2. ITR II is slightly more elaborate. You either need to spend more time understanding its structure, or you can outsource this process for a small fee.
  1. Submit form online at https://incometaxindiaefiling.gov.in
  2. You will get a ITR V acknowledgement. Take a printout of this, sign and courier to: Income Tax Department - CPC, Post Bag No - 1, Electronic City Post Office, Bangalore -560100
  3. If you have digitally signed the returns, there is no need for manually signing and sending ITR-V across
  4. You should get your final acknowledgement mail in a week or so.
