In Growth option of mutual funds, whatever profit the fund makes is allowed to remain in the fund itself. This increases the net asset value (NAV) of the fund. Returns are not passed on to investors, unlike in the dividend option. It's somewhat like allowing the interest on your bank account, to continue lying in the bank and earn more interest itself, rather than take it out for spending.
